This tool will allow you to estimate the number of file copies and the amount of storage consumed when a user creates a new file and shares it with others via email, document management systems and/or network devices such as a filer or NAS device.
Input Section
Step 1: Enter the number of files you want to model and give them an average size. For example, a user creates three new files, each roughly 1MB in size. Enter 3 in the first field and 1 in the second field.
Step 2: Select which system(s) will store a copy of the file(s) by checking the appropriate box(es). This could be just on the user's laptop or it could be emailed, placed into a document management system such as Microsoft SharePoint, and/or into a network folder.
Step 3: In the first field, estimate the number of backup copies likely to be created. In many environments this would be 1 or 2 additional copies in case the original is damaged or lost. In the second field, enter the number of sites to which a file might be replicated. If you have 3 datacenters in your organization, enter 3. If you have 100 branch offices that would likely need access to the file, enter 100.
Step 4: Enter the number of users likely to receive an emailed copy or store a copy of the file for their use. For example, if the user creating the original file emails it to 5 people for review then enter 5 in the field provided.
Once you have completed the inputs, click the Calculate Results button to get a report on how many total copies would be created and storage capacity consumed with a traditional approach to file serving versus the copies created and storage consumed using Hitachi Content Platform Anywhere to share information via links instead of transmitting, storing, protecting and replicating that information in all these different systems and devices.
This report can also be downloaded or emailed using the buttons below the results graphs.
